Felicia Mayo, who is the HR VP and head of the department of diversity for Tesla has decided to leave the company. One of the spokesperson from the company has thanked Felicia for her hard work for the company over the past 2 years. He has also wished her all the best for her future endeavors. Tesla is known to have one of the most enthusiastic and hardworking workplaces of the world. The company has some highly ambitious targets which are generally set by its CEO, Elon Musk. It is assumed that this kind of working environment and pressure on targets have led to attrition amongst the high level executives in recent years.
Felicia Mayo is considered one of the few black ladies in the corporate world who rose to high ranks. According to recent statistics, the percentage of black women leading in the Silicon Valley is even lower than 0.5%. This figure has been provided by the Kapor Center in their 2018 stats.
Mayo was previously working at Juniper Networks. Here her designation was VP of global talent acquisition and diversity. She then joined Tesla as Vice President for Human Resource but for lesser than 2 years. In this role she was reporting to CEO Elon Musk and Kevin Kassekert, who is the VP of People & Places.
While she was in this role, Tesla started operating globally. It also started the manufacture of Model 3 electric sedans in larger numbers during this time. The company also made some debatable decisions like shutting down stores. The company also implemented some controversial restructuring. Employees were also promised discounts on the condition that they need to use the beta version of Tesla’s Full Self- Driving software and provide their opinion on the same.
